A sporty councillor has raised more than £1,500 for charity by taking part in yesterday’s London Marathon.

Cllr James Denselow, Labour councillor for Queen’s Park, completed the 26.2 mile run in just four hours and 10 minutes in aid of the St. John Eye Hospital.

The Jerusalem-based medical centre provides low-cost expert eye care for patients of all ethnicity, religion or ability to pay.

Cllr Denselow said: “I’d like to thank all those who sponsored me or came down to cheer on the runners yesterday.

“Running the London Marathon makes me incredibly proud of my city. I’m delighted to have raised over £1,500 for and will definitely be putting my name into the hat for the race next year!”

Last year Cllr Denselow, a writer on Middle East politics and security issues, ran the Bournemouth Marathon to raise funds for the Mayhew Animal Home in Kensal Green.
