Bermuda international yet to register a goal in first two games for QPR since joining on loan from Burnley

Queens Park Rangers forward Nahki Wells is confident he will soon get among the goals after failing to register in his first two Sky Bet Championship games since joining on loan from Premier League side Burnley.

The Bermuda international moved to the Rs on a season-long loan deal with a reputation for getting goals in the second tier of English football.

Despite starting against both Wigan Athletic and Birmingham City, Wells is yet to get his first goal since joining QPR.

In comparison, fellow loan signing Tomer Hemed marked his debut with the winner against the Latics.

But Wells is confident he too will soon be back on the scoresheet as he looks for his first goal for the west Londoners.

“The goals will come, Tomer got off the mark in the first game and I’m just keeping my head down and working hard,” the 28-year-old told the club website.

“I know once the goal goes in I will try and go on a run. More importantly, it’s about the team and picking up points.”

Wells and his Rs team-mates are now without a game in the league until September 15 when they head to Bolton Wanderers owing to the upcoming international break.

The gap in the fixture schedule should allow QPR time to develop a closer bond on the training pitch.

And Wells is confident the team will use the international break to their advantage, ensuring they are in a better place when they tackle to Trotters later this month.

“When you think about it, it’s only been seven or eight days to train and work together,” he added.

“We are trying to make it work, we are trying to help each other’s strengths and ultimately lead our team and score goals.”

“It’s about gelling and settling in so it’s important that now we have a couple of weeks’ to practice and time to grow as a team.”

Against Birmingham City last weekend, the Rs earned just a second league clean sheet of the season as they played out a goalless draw, and Wells believes the whole team deserves credit for how they defended.

“The clean sheet is for the whole team. We know that if we keep clean sheets that’s how you pick up points and that’s how you win games,” said the Bermuda international.
