QPR winger Matt Phillips could be set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering an ankle injury during his side’s 3-3 draw with Burnley on Saturday.

Phillips last barely five minutes before he was forced to come off, and Rangers assistant manager Kevin Bond admitted he was unsure as to the severity of the injury.

“He’s gone over on his ankle, we’re not sure whether it’s his ligaments, we’ve not had a chance to assess that,” said Bond. “But it was sufficiently bad for him to come off early in the game. We don’t know what the prognosis is for that.”

QPR debutants Kevin Doyle and Modibo Maiga were both on target for QPR at Loftus Road, the transfer deadline day signings finding the net in an enthralling encounter between two sides battling for automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Burnley played their part as Danny Ings and a Sam Vokes double ensured that they left west London with a point, but it was the goals from QPR’s forwards which delighted Bond.

Doyle, on loan for the season from Wolves, took less than seven minutes to find the net with a header, while West Ham loanee Maiga tapped in to make it 3-3 in the second half.

Both were signed to supplement the goals of the injured Charlie Austin, who may not feature again this season thanks to a shoulder injury sustained against Bolton on Tuesday.

“When you start Kevin and AJ [Andy Johnson] you know you’re going to get a stint from them. We need that energy and we need front men who will work hard,” said Bond.

“That’s what they are there for, to score goals. At the end of the day your front men have got to score goals. We’ve lost someone who did that exceptionally well for us, and we got three today which is fantastic.”

Bond added that both he and Redknapp have faith in Maiga, who had struggled to make an impact at Upton Park, scoring two goals in 19 appearances since joining from Sochaux in 2012.

Bond added: “For one reason or another he hasn’t been doing himself justice previously. Both Harry and I had seen him play prior to him coming to West Ham. Harry felt that maybe that he had more to offer than he had shown.”
