Rs boss feels officials got key decisions wrong in build-up to both Blades goals

Steve McClaren believes Queens Park Rangers were on the wrong end of two incorrect decisions by referee Scott Duncan in their 2-1 defeat at home to Sheffield United in the Sky Bet Championship.

The Rs had taken the lead in the 29th minute at Loftus Road when Ebere Eze lashed home from the edge of the area.

The Blades, though, were level in the 43rd minute when Billy Sharp tapped home from close range after being found by Kieron Freeman.

Worse was to come as substitute David McGoldrick fired Chris Wilder’s men ahead from the spot in the 65th minute after a penalty award that left most in west London scratching their heads as to how it was given.

The defeat means QPR remain on the lookout for their first league win of the season, but McClaren feels his team were let down by bad refereeing.

“I think we’ve lost the game because of two poor decisions,” said the 57-year-old.

“The first goal, we looked at it at half-time and it was offside. Sharp was in front of our defenders when the ball was crossed.

“The officials missed that and I can’t understand the penalty. I just still can’t.

“I’ve seen it back a number of times. Joel Lynch is going backwards and we feel McGoldrick is handling Lynch.

“Jake Bidwell is just behind, ducking to get out of the way and there’s no contact.

“From the referee’s opinion, there was a push in the back.

“We’ve tried to show him the video quite a few times, but you can’t do that so we’ll just have to put a report in.

“It’s cost us the game, there’s no doubt about that, but in terms of how we played, it was far, far better than at Preston North End.”

One positive for the Rs in defeat was the display from Ebere Eze, and McClaren was only too happy to praise the promising youngster.

“We’ve got that special player in Ebere who can create something out of nothing,” he added.

Eze was certainly in the mood on Saturday and McClaren will hope there are no further contentious decisions for while.
