QPR have opened talks with Tottenham in an attempt to re-sign Kyle Walker on another loan deal.

His month’s loan at Loftus Road expires this week, and Rangers are keen for Walker to return to them after the international break.

Spurs manager Harry Redknapp has indicated that he will allow the defender to do so, although Walker’s immediate concern is a back problem which could force his withdrawal from England’s Under-21 squad.

“I’ve spoken to Harry and we would like to extend it,” Warnock confirmed.

“Kyle’s a great player who can play anywhere across the back and even in Shaun Derry’s midfield position, so he’s got a few strings to his bow. It would be nice to have him on board.”

Walker suffered a back strain during QPR’s win at Crystal Palace on Saturday, and is due to be assessed by England’s medical team ahead of Friday’s European Under-21 Championship qualifier against Romania.

The former Sheffield United player recently suggested that he would like to extend his spell at Rangers if an agreement could be reached.

He said: “I’d like to stay and hopefully that will happen. I’m enjoying it here and hope it continues. It’s just a month for the moment and a case of waiting to see if it’s extended.

“Harry Redknapp said he wanted me to go and play some games. It’s vital for my experience – I turned 20 in the summer – and after that I’ll hopefully get into the team at Tottenham.

“It’s been a great move for me because I’ve gone straight into a winning team that plays good football.”

It is hoped that even if Walker’s injury rules him out of this week’s England under-21 game, he will be fit for Rangers’ match against Norwich on 16 October if a new loan deal is agreed.

Alejandro Faurlin and Bradley Orr should also be available for that match after both players returned to full training on Tuesday following groin and calf injuries respectively.

And recent signing Rob Hulse, yet to make his debut because of an Achilles complaint, has stepped up his rehabilitation.

Faurlin, who signed a new four-year contract on Monday, has missed four matches since limping off during last month’s 3-0 win at Ipswich.
