Matt Phillips is targeting an improvement on his “up and down” 2012-13 season as he looks to guide QPR back to the Premier League.

Phillips made his Rangers debut during the 1-0 win over Birmingham City on Saturday, and is expected to start at Loftus Road this evening as Harry Redknapp’s side seek to continue their unbeaten start to the league campaign against Brighton.

Phillips featured in 36 of Blackpool’s 49 matches last season, but managed only four goals, failing to score between early October and early April.

And having joined QPR intent on helping his new side achieve promotion, he also wants to improve his personal tally. “Last season was a bit up and down for me. I had my injuries and then I was out of the side towards the end of the season,” said Phillips.

“Four goals is not a great total, so this season I want to get as many goals and assists as I can I should score my fair share as well - the main thing is to get promoted.”
