Rs right-back set to be out for three months after underdgoing knee surgery
Queens Park Rangers defender Darnell Furlong will miss the start of the new Sky Bet Championship season after being ruled out for three months following knee surgery.
The 22-year-old suffered a torn knee ligament during the second half of a 1-0 friendly win at Sky Bet League One side Wimbledon on Saturday.
Furlong, the son of legendary Rs forward Paul, has since had surgery to correct that injury, but is now facing a spell on the sidelines.
QPR boss Steve McClaren said: “This is a massive blow for Darnell personally, and for the team. He has looked great throughout pre-season and we are all gutted for him.
“However, I know the sort of personality Darnell is and he will be doing everything in his power to come back fitter and stronger than ever.”
Furlong’s absence leaves QPR desperately short of players at right-back ahead of the new season, which could force McClaren into the market for one.
