Rs took on German opposition twice over course of last weekend

Queens Park Rangers assistant manager John Eustace says the attitude from the players so far in pre-season has been exactly what he expected when he joined the club.

The 38-year-old is still a relatively new face at Loftus Road, having joined as Steve McClaren’s number two in May.

Both McClaren and Eustace will have spent pre-season getting used to their new charges, but the assistant manager says he has found the players’ mindsets exactly as he expected when joining the club

“We all heard about the attitude of the players before we came in and their attitudes have been spot on. They are also very good footballers,” Eustace told the club website.

QPR spent last weekend in Germany taking on Bundesliga side Hoffenheim in two pre-season friendlies.

Goals from Toni Leistner and Ryan Manning saw the Rs battle back from two goals down on Saturday to draw 2-2, but it was not such a happy story on Sunday as the west Londoners suffered a 3-0 defeat.

Eustace, however, is not concerned by the Loftus Road outfit’s inability to claim a win on their German trip and instead insists there are plenty of positives to take.

“It was an excellent weekend. The lads worked their socks off and their attitudes were fantastic,” he added.

“We were playing against a team who had qualified for the Champions League, but the way the lads played their football – they were brave – meant there were some real pleasing things in both games.”

Had QPR collected a win in either of their games against a talented Hoffenheim side, it would have been a welcome boost ahead of the new campaign.

But Eustace feels that results are not all-important in pre-season instead, believing displays matter more.

“It’s not about results in pre-season, it’s about being brave and showing everyone that you will be good enough to play in the Championship,” he said.

“The attitude shown by the players was fantastic and they played some really good football.

“It’s great to get a good result, but we’re not looking at that.

“We’re looking to see if the boys can be brave enough to play at home and away. They certainly stood up to two good teams over the weekend.”
