Defender moved to Rs in 2016 after over 200 appearances for Bees
Jake Bidwell wants the Queens Park Rangers squad to give their fans something to celebrate by getting the better of west London rivals Brentford in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday.
The fierce rivals meet for the first time this term at Loftus Road on Saturday, with both gunning for a derby day success.
For Bidwell, there is a little more riding on it as he comes up against his former employers in the Bees.
But the Rs defender believes there is a greater importance on getting the win for the fans rather than for his own personal reasons.
Speaking to QPR’s The Loftcast, Bidwell said: “It would be nice to beat them.
“There’ll be some familiar faces, but there’s been a big changeover in players (since I was there) and there’s not too many players that I know there now.
“These derbies are for the fans and we haven’t won against Brentford for a couple of years, so it would be nice if the fans can go into work on Monday morning with the bragging rights.
“Of course I’d like to win the game, but these derbies are all about the fans and we want to win it for them.”
QPR face Brentford after seeing a five-game unbeaten run in the league come to an end with a 1-0 defeat at Blackburn Rovers last Saturday.
The Rs will hope to swiftly return to winning ways this weekend and avoid being stung by the Bees.
And Bidwell believes the home fans could play a huge part in helping Steve McClaren’s men beat their fierce rivals.
“For the squad, there is no better game to bounce back in and being at home as well (is a lift),” added the 25-year-old.
“If we can make a good start and get the crowd onside, get the place rocking, Loftus Road can be an unbelievable place when the atmosphere is there.
“It’s up to us as players to generate that and give the crowd something to get excited about.
“It could be a tackle or it could be an early goal, but we better get the crowd going early doors and we’ll use them as the 12th man.”
An early goal would certainly help the home support get behind the Rs in their quest to beat Brentford.
And any victory over the Bees would be a huge plus for QPR to take into the upcoming international break.
