Chris Ramsey paid tribute to QPR skipper Nedum Onuoha after the defender marked his 100th appearance for the club with a goal in their 3-0 win at Yeovil Town in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old added gloss to the scoreline after first-half efforts from Sebastian Polter and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas – who notched their first competitive goals for Rangers – had put the visitors in control at Huish Park.

“Nedum was brilliant,” said Ramsey. “He’s been excellent ever since the day I’ve been in charge here, on and off the field. He leads by example and is a great asset.”

The Rs head coach also praised Polter, who made his full debut for the club, having previously likened him to former QPR favourite Bobby Zamora.

German striker Polter led the line admirably for the Championship side as they swept aside their League Two hosts to advance to the second round.

“Seb Polter worked his socks off in that lone role,” said Ramsey. “He’s pushing hard to make that role his own up front.”

Rangers’ cup record over the last decade has been a real cause for concern, so Ramsey was pleased with his side’s professional display as they secured a rare knock-out triumph.

He added: “We treated the game with a lot of respect, which I think you need to do, as it’s a great cup competition. All in all it was a job well done in what could have been a potential banana skin. I wanted us to be professional and we did that.”
