The attacking duo spent last season out on loan, with Remy scoring 14 goals for Newcastle and Taarabt moving initially on loan to Fulham before enjoying a more successful spell in Italy at AC Milan.

Fernandes is hopeful that at least one of the attacking duo will stay - but only if they convince him of their commitment to the Hooped shirt.

He said: “My position on Remy is that I don’t want to wait until two days before the transfer window closes and then somebody comes in for him.

“For me the decision has to be made fairly soon because we don’t want to be without a striker.

“I’d like to keep Remy, I think I made that clear on Instagram. He has proven himself – he has to want to stay.

“I signed Loic and he did a good job for QPR and a great job for Newcastle last year.”

Fernandes is not worried that the former Marseille striker will only opt to stay at Loftus Road if another club fails to meet his wage demands.

He said: “I don’t think Loic is that person. He wants to be France’s top striker. Obviously playing at the top of the league is different than playing in a relegation battle, if that’s where we are.

“I think he has turned down some clubs. If it’s a club that is not dissimilar to QPR then why go?

“If it’s a club that’s much bigger, then I’m not going to hold him back.”

Despite Taarabt making it clear he would like to return to Serie A, Fernandes believes the Moroccan may choose to remain in west London.

He said: “I would like him to stay because he has a great history with us. He has never done it in the Premier League so that is for him to do. He has done it in flashes.

“He is probably one of the best players I have ever seen. He has a great football brain – he knows it. But it is up to him whether he wants to do it or not. From a professional standpoint I think it would be great if he stayed.”

One thing Fernandes will not tolerate from any player this season is a lack of commitment.

He said: “I want players who want to play for us. I want players who want to get out there and play - whether they are 35 or 22.

“This is what I’ve learnt in football – sometimes the 35-year-old wants to play more than a kid who has just got a £50,000 wage.

“You look at a lot of the players last year - they were devastated when they were injured but we had some players a few years ago who couldn’t care if they were injured or not.

“That’s the most important thing to me - if a player wants to stay at QPR.

“One of those guys may turn out that you think they are not going to be there and then become one of the stars.

“It’s a weird thing. In my three years in football there is no-one who can predict everything and there will be one – something that just happens which nobody expects.

“Joey Barton, no fan wanted him, and then he became one of the players of the season.”

One man unlikely to be seen again in a QPR shirt is Gary O’Neil. The midfielder, who was sent off in the play-off final win at Wembley, is training with the club but has not been offered a contract.

The future of Julio Cesar is set to be resolved when he returns from holiday following his performances for Brazil in the World Cup.
