Rs beat Trotters 2-1 on Saturday, with midfielder opening the scoring

Luke Freeman was pleased to get off the mark for the season with the opening goal for Queens Park Rangers in a 2-1 win at Bolton Wanderers in the Sky Bet Championship.

The 26-year-old netted in the 26th minute at the University of Bolton Stadium, while Ebere Eze doubled the Rs’ lead in the 56th minute.

Josh Magennis pulled one back for the Trotters in the 69th minute, but the Loftus Road club held on to triumph.

And Freeman was pleased to grab his first goal of the campaign in the away success.

“Last year I did well with the assists, but didn’t feel I did well enough with the goals,” he told the club website.

“I’ve got a target to get to double figures for both which I think I’m well capable of.

“We’ve been doing a lot of transitional play during the international break. My goal was what we practised on the training field.

“It was something we’ve worked on so it wasn’t really a big surprise when it happened.”

The victory saw QPR collect their first away win of the season, having not triumphed on the road in the league since March.

It also saw Steve McClaren’s men make it four games unbeaten in all competitions, and Freeman knows the club are heading in the right direction.

“Saturday was a good day in the office as we’ve had a few bad ones this season,” he added.

“I think it was our best performance of the season. We played some nice stuff at times and, when required, defended for our lives. It shows everyone is on board and desperate to win.

“It was nice to get what we deserved because we’ve been working so hard, but it has been going the other way.

“It’s starting to get that little bit of a buzz about it now. There’s a really good team spirit, there are no bad eggs, everyone is trying to do well and pull in the same direction.

“It’s not often you get that in football and we really feel like we are starting to get somewhere.”
