Probe after mystery blaze

RESIDENTS were rescued from the roof of a four-storey house after flames ripped through a block of flats.

Two people had to be rescued by ladder from the roof, in Woodchurch Road, West Hampstead, on Saturday, February 20.

Another person was rescued from the ground floor by firefighters in breathing apparatus after the fire began at around 12.20pm.

All of those who were rescued were treated for smoke inhalation by London Ambulance Service crews.

A London Fire Brigade spokesman said four fire engines and around 20 firefighters fought the blaze.

He said part of the building's basement and ground floor was damaged by fire. And he added that the upper floors were also partly damaged by smoke.

Fire crews from West Hampstead, Belsize and Paddington fire stations were in attendance.

A brigade spokesman said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
