The Labour Assembly member has held on to his Brent and Harrow seat with a landslide victory.

Navin Shah polled 79,902 votes (45 per cent), 20,755 more than his nearest rival, Cllr Joel Davidson, Conservative Party, who polled 59,147 votes (33 per cent).

He said: “It is once again a privilege to have a resounding verdict from my people of Brent and Harrow. I will continue to serve with diligence and deliver their aspirations and priorities. My sincere thanks to the residents to vesting their trust in me again and I shall not let them down.”

He added: “Like most of London the local priorities are those of developing genuinely affordable housing, affordable and accessible public transport, visible community policing to drive down crime and tackle fear of crime, regeneration of local areas and attacking problem of lethal air quality in our local areas. Working with local people and stakeholders I will continue my campaigns like the ones for step-free access at Harrow On The Hill, Northwick Park and Stanmore stations and clean bus corridor to improve local air quality.”

He said he was “delighted” that Labour’s Sadiq Khan had been elected Mayor of London.Carolyn Downs, constituency returning officer and chief executive at Brent Council, said: “I would like to congratulate Navin Shah and Barbara Pitruzzella on their election victories and I look forward to working with them both going forward.

“I’d like to thank everyone who played their part in our democracy and turned out to vote, as well all of those from both Brent and Harrow who staffed the polling stations, counted the ballot papers and helped the election to run so smoothly.”
