A gang armed with metal poles threw bricks and bottles at police cars outside Brent Cross Shopping Centre in the early hours of this morning.

Officers were called to the mall at 2.50am where they were confronted with the gang made up of between 15 and 20 people.

Despite police car windows being smashed no-one was injured. There was also no damage to the shopping centre.

Norman Black, head of marketing at the centre, said: “We are trading as normal. There is no intention to close shops early. This is a fast moving situation. If we receive intelligence that will put people at risk, we will take advice from the police and act on it.”

Three men, aged 25, 21 and 28, have been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and are in custody at a north London police station.
