Plans approved to build 18-storey tower on car park site in Wembley

Brent Council has approved plans for an 18-storey tower block as part of 186 new homes to be built on the site of a privately-owned car park in Wembley.
Developers Ares Properties will build four residential blocks on the site in Montrose Crescent and plots of neighbouring land in Wembley High Road. The development, which consists of a three, six, 13 and 18 storey blocks will include 26 affordable homes and eight shared ownership properties along with 18 retail units and currently includes plans for a children’s play park.
The developers were given the go ahead despite residents in neighbouring properties submitting a 65-signature petition objecting to increased levels of traffic as well as the loss of the pay-and-display car park located opposite the rear of Wembley Central station.
One resident wrote on the Brent Council planning website: “The planning application severely impacts this highly congested area; the car park currently helps the Ealing Road and High Road area to be less congested, mainly because it is used by people who come for shopping in Wembley central, or to visit the mosque or other religious areas.”
Under the plans, the current 130 space car park will be replaced with an 89 space basement level car park for public use.
However, there was also cautious supported for plans to redevelop the area, with one resident writing: “I support the proposed redevelopment on Montrose Crescent although I do have an issue with the extra traffic this will create.”
The approval comes after HUB, a mid-market housing developer, submitted plans to the council to demolish Chesterfield House in Park Lane, and build two tower blocks of 21 and 26 storeys built on the site.
The 21-storey north block will be 100 per cent affordable housing with all 103 flats offered at discount market rent (DMR), community centre on the ground floor and a communal room on the seventh floor.

The 26-storey south block will contains 136 flats which be sold on the open market and a retail or office space on the ground floor.
