These images show the moment an armed motorbike gang made their getaway after carrying out a smash-and-grab robbery at a jewellers in Kingsbury this afternoon.

The six robbers parked up their bikes on the pavement in front of the store in Kingsbury Road, before smashing the windows and snatching Asian gold worth thousands of pound just after 2pm.

One of the hammer-wielding robbers can be seen standing guard while his accomplices loot the shop.

They try to flee on their bikes but are thwarted by angry passersby who try and stop them from escaping.

Fearing he would be caught one robber abandons his bike and runs up Kingsbury Road before making his escape through Roe Green Park.

While he flees video footage shows an angry crowd of traders close in on a suspect who is riding a moped.

After throwing items at the suspect they manage to drag him off his vehicle and hold him down until two police officers arrive.

The traders find a laundry bag on the moped which is filled with jewellery.

The suspect is arrested.

Detectives from the Flying Squad are leading the investigation into the robbery that took place just after 2pm.
