Picture gallery: Record number of people flock to Brent’s Gladstonbury Festival

Thousands of people basked in the sun at this year’s Gladstonbury Festival which took place yesterday.

Around 25,000 people flocked to the annual event in Gladstone Park where they treated to international food, art, music and dance on the hottest day of the year.

This year’s festival has a record-breaking turn out and included acts by Willesden-bred singer Janet Kay, along with Victor Romero Evans and Carole Thompson.

The talented trio are the stars of the hit reggae show The Lovers Rock Monologues and they performed a sensational set before signing autographs for a crowd of fans.

Other highlights included the finalists in the Bmyvoice Talent Tent competition performing on the main stage to the delight of the crowd and Cuban band Son Yambu getting fans dancing to finish the day in style.

Cllr Bobby Thomas, Brent Mayor, who opened the event, said: “The turnout was amazing. It was a fantastic day, there was lots on and the weather was good.

“It was very relaxing, people were lying down, chilling, children were running around, merry-making, it was a great atmosphere.”

Other attractions on offer included Caribbean, Mauritian and Indian food and cookery demonstrations, energetic dance sessions for visitors as part of the celebration of Brent Dance Month, free taster sessions in sports and the Woofstock Dog Show.

The popular day was sponsored by George Irvin Leisure, Daniels Estate Agents and Network Living.
