A neglected rabbit has been found abandoned in a cardboard box amongst a pile of old clothes and rubbish in Queen’s Park.
The flea-bitten bunny with matted fur, infected ears and eyes and severely overgrown nails was discovered yesterday - halfway through Rabbit Awareness Week.
He has been taken to the Mayhew Animal Home in Trenmar Gardens, Kensal Green, where he has been named Kieren by staff who are taking care of him.
According to a message scrawled on the box Kieren was left in his owner dumped him as their benefits had been cut.
Samantha Saunders, a vet at the Mayhew, said: “The frustrating thing about cases like poor Kieren is that there are many outlets out there that are available that offers low cost preventative measures and his suffering could have easily been avoided.”
The Mayhew, which is a registered charity, offers low cost neutering, vaccinations, defleaing and deworming and runs a nurses clinic every Wednesday. Find more information visit here or call 020 8962 8017.
