Safer Neighbourhood officers were patrolling the high street to help prevent mobile phones being stolen.

Kilburn's Safer Neighbourhood Team officers were joined by Cllr Haley Matthews, Brent's member for community safety, as they marked property while walking down Kilburn High Road.

The initiative last week was organised by both Brent and Camden councils, who control each side of the busy thoroughfare.

Stolen phones are more likely to be reunited with their owners, if they call into the hands of the police, if they are marked.

The security measures are not exclusively for mobile phones as laptops, mp3 players and other portable devices can me marked too.

In addition, police believe by marking items it makes them less attractive to thieves because they know the item is more easily recognisable as stolen property.

You can register your mobile at www.immobilise.com so police can track if it is lost or stolen.
