Two men have been arrested and bailed for the murder of Daniel Smith, writes Kate Ferguson.

The pair, both aged 21, answered bail at a central London police station on August 11, where they were further bailed until October 14, pending police enquiries.

Daniel Smith, from Queen's Park, was shot outside KFC, where he had been picking up dinner for his family, in Harrow Road, Paddington, on May 22 at 12.15am.

The 22-year-old later died at the scene.

Mr Smith, who worked as an electrician in Paddington, was described by the police as a good, hard working young man who was never in trouble with the law.

Officers think Mr Smith was shot in a case of mistaken identity.

Det Con Insp John Crossely from Operation Trident, the Met's specialist team that investigates gun crime in London, is leading the hunt for Mr Smith's killer.

He previously told the Times he could find no motive to why anyone would want to kill Mr Smith, adding: "Daniel has no criminal connections. He is a good clean-living working guy who was simply picking up a takeaway for his family when he was killed."

Det Insp Mark Brookes, from the inquiry team, said: "We believe this is likely to be gang-related and was a case of mistaken identity."

Detectives are urging for witnesses to come forward and have offered a reward of up to 20,000 for information leading to an arrest and prosecution.

A man was previously arrested and bailed on July 29 in connection with Mr Smith's murder.

Police have released CCTV images of three people police are keen to speak with regarding the inquiry.

The first still, taken just before midnight on Friday May 21, around 15 minutes before Daniel was shot, shows two black men walking on Marylands Road, off the Harrow Road, where police believe the offenders may have made their escape.

The man on the left is a light-skinned black man wearing a t-shirt and his companion appears to be wearing a baseball cap and has facial stubble.

The second still, taken at 12.15am on Saturday May 22, just a minute or so before Daniel was shot, shows a man in Harrow Road, looking in the direction of Daniel's car, parked on the opposite side to the KFC.

This man is wearing a white beany hat

He is also wearing a chain with a pendant finishing at the top of the breast bone.
