A BAR owner who refused to turn the volume down despite being ordered to by the council has been fined in court.

Neighbours living near Westcoast Restaurant, in Harrow Road, Harlesden, pictured, can now sleep at night after Linda Kusah, of Ilbert Street, Queen's Park, was ordered to pay 1,680.

Brent Magistrates' Court heard council chiefs had received a barrage of complaints about the excessive noise booming out of the premises in the early hours of the morning.

Despite being given warnings about the noise, Ms Kusah ignored them and continue to blast loud music resulting in her being served with a noise abatement notice in November last year.

This did not deter her and when environmental health officers visited the bar a further two times they witnessed the loud noise blasting out at 2.30am.

Last week she admitted repeatedly causing a noise nuisance to the bar's immediate neighbours.

David Thrale, director of environmental health at Brent Council, said: "I am pleased that we have successfully supported local people who want Ms Kusah and the Westcoast bar to behave more responsibly in future.

"The council wants local businesses to do well but not at the expense of their neighbours.
