A beauty salon in Harlesden has been heavily fined for carrying out unlicensed treatments on customers despite being banned from doing so by the council.

John Paraskeva, the owner of Paraskevas Haircutters in Park Parade, failed to renew his special treatment licence which is a legal requirement to administer treatments such as sunbeds, manicures and pedicures.

Willesden Magistrate’s Court heard he refused to do so despite repeated efforts made by Brent Council and he continued to carry out treatments after a prohibition notice was served.

He admitted failing to renew a special treatment licence and contravening health and safety regulations and was fined a total of £3,150.

Cllr Muhammed Butt, Leader of Brent Council said “The council works hard with traders to protect their customers and staff. If businesses refuse to comply with safety regulations or obtain the necessary licenses, then they are putting the public at risk.

“We want to create a safe borough for everyone”.

Paraskeva has since renewed his licence.
