The wait is finally over for thousands of nervous teenagers in Brent who pick up their A-level results today.
The number of top A-level grades has dipped for the fourth year in a row, while the overall pass rate has risen, official figures show.
Early Ucas figures show a record number of students have been accepted on to degree courses in the UK, with 409,410 taking up places so far - up 3 per cent on the same point last year.

The number of students passing the A-levels has increased by 15 per cent this year at a secondary school in Wembley which converted to an academy last September.
A total of 89pc of students at Ark Elvin Academy in Cecil Avenue, secured at least three A-levels, compared to 74pc last year.
In addition 21 per cent of students got the top A*-B grades enabling them to apply to a good university.
Annabel Bates, principal of Ark Elvin, said: “Our aim is to ensure every student gets the grades to enable them to go to university or pursue their career of choice. It’s really pleasing to see our students getting ready for their next stage in their education. We’re all really proud of their achievements.”
Jerome Lake, who joined Ark Elvin in 2008 when it was still Copland Community School, is set to study economics at the University of East Anglia.
He said: “The school wasn’t always very well organised and there were a lot of behaviour issues. Since it became Ark Elvin, there’s a much clearer direction and everyone’s focused on achieving the best they can.

Newman Catholic College in Harlesden Road, Harlesden, is celebrating a 100 per cent pass rate.
One delighted student called Nnamdi is off to Kent Canterbury to study finance and economics.

Kate Colley, a student at the Jesus and Mary Language College in Crownhill Road, Harlesden, will be joining her sister at Oxford University thanks to her grades.
The 18-year-old achieved two A* in psychology and geography and an A in biology.
She said: “It’s nice to go somewhere familiar but we’re in different colleges.”
The overall pass rate was down from last year but according to
Geraldine Freear, the school’s headteacher, there were “significant pockets of improvement”.
She added: “We’re really proud of the girls and the hard work they have put in alongside their teachers.
“I’m so grateful for the support of their teachers.”

Staff and students at Whitefield School in Cricklewood are celebrating an increase in their A-level pass rates.
The percentage of A2 Level passes at grades A*-B was 20.78 per cent and an increase in the percentage of A2 Level pass grades rose by four pc to 97.40pc.

Early results over Brent show a growth in A-level results amongst the Academies.
Crest Academy, in Crest Road, saw a huge climb in results with 86 per cent of pupils achieving three A* - E A-Levels compared to last year’s 42 pc.
The number of pupils who secured two A-levels jumped from 92 pc to 95 pc.
Qamar Riaz said only one of the 14 pupils did not achieve all three.
He added: “We have become very strict about who we allow to continue. This year we had 14 pupils but next year we have 56 students going on to a pure 3 A-Level path way and we are going to maintain this result.”
From September the formally single sex schools, Crest Boys and Crest Girls, will combine to form one mixed academy from Year 7.
Mohsen Ojja, principle of Crest said: “This is a stellar set of results. We are hugely proud of our students and staff.
Capital City Academy, in Doyle Gardens, saw a pass rate of 98 pc for A*-E passes.
A*-B was 38 pc, while A*-C was 65 pc.
BTEC entries, recorded separately this year, saw double distinctions reach 81pc.
Alex Thomas, principle, said: “We are really pleased to have received good results today with a record number of A* grades. Students like Peter Bachelor (4 A* grades), Vishal Gajipra (2 A* and 2A) and Raheem Khan (1A* and 2A) have done incredibly well. The staff and Trustees wish all those going to university their best wishes.”
