Market Place (Wembley Park) Ltd have signed a code of practice which includes them working and taking advice from Brent and Harrow Trading Standards Service (BHTSS) to ensure stalls will have the highest standards.

As part of the agreement, called the ‘Real Deal’, Market Place will ban the sale of any illegal goods, keep proper records of trader’s identities and individuals working on stalls and promote consumer advice.

Nick Rhodes, chief executive of Market Place, said: “Market Place is absolutely delighted to be offered the opportunity by Quintain to operate markets and events at Wembley Park.

“The aims and aspirations of Market Place are to provide quality markets and events that will appeal to both the local and wider community.”

The steps have been taken after Quintain terminated the lease held by the operators of Wembley Market, after more than 25 years of trading.

The action was taken as the market had a reputation for selling counterfeit goods.

Over the last few years officers from BHTSS have raided the market prosecuted a string of traders for selling fake goods.

Bill Bilon, head of BHTSS, said: “Officers are looking forward to working with Market Place after the significant problems relating to the sale of counterfeit goods from the previous market.

“This scheme which will enhance the consumer’s confidence and provide a level playing field for those who come and trade.”
