QPR boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink remained coy on his future after seeing his side grab a point at Nottingham Forest on Saturday, but believes he still has the backing of the club’s hierarchy.

Pressure has intensified on the Dutchman in recent weeks with many calling for Hasselbaink’s head.

Things looked to be getting worse for him after seeing Karl Henry receive his marching orders in the first half, with Britt Assombalonga giving the hosts the lead shortly after.

But the Rs fought back well after the interval, with Idrissa Sylla coming off the bench to score an 85th minute equaliser for Rangers after Hildeberto Pereira also saw red for two bookable offences within five minutes.

When questioned about the recent speculation that Tim Sherwood is set to replace him at QPR, and whether this result was a stay of execution, Hasselbaink replied: “If they are going to do something, [the board] that’s the nature of the game.

“It is what it is. You know what is happening here, you have been around here a long time [to reporter]. I’m trying to do a good job and I think we’re going in a good direction.

“I can’t do anything about my position. We have a much bigger club than QPR in Manchester United – they are struggling too. It’s not easy. It’s about taking time and being calm and in control.”

He continued: “You need to make the players feel you are calm and in control, there’s no time for panic.

“Until I hear differently, I believe I do [have the club’s backing].

“I’m not happy with certain performances, but that’s the league we’re in, it’s inconsistent. We are six points away from the play-offs, it’s not a bad situation we are in now.”

Hasselbaink’s over-exuberant celebration following Sylla’s goal looked one of a man with a huge weight lifted off his shoulders, but the Rs boss insisted he was just pleased his players got what they deserved ultimately.

“I celebrated the way I did as I was just really happy because they played with 10 men for a lot of the game, but still managed to get a point,” he said.

“To play in the manner the team did meant they deserved a goal, so I’m happy for that.”
