A shop in Harlesden that lost its licence after it ignored a ban on the sales of high strength beers has launched a bid to sell alcohol again.

Just Food & Wine in Alric Avenue, had its licence revoked last year after a damning report by Brent Police claimed it sold Guinness Foreign Extra and Dragon Stout which are both above the permitted 5.5per cent strength.

Officers also claim the store, which was called Alric Food & Wine at the time, sold single cans of beers of customers and allowed drinkers to congregate outside its premises which breached a further two of the 18 conditions placed on it licence.

The shop had the conditions placed on its licence in 2014 following claims it sold counterfeit alcohol and booze and cigarettes where duty had not been paid.

The new application for a licence has been submitted by Veerasingham Tharmavathynan who claims to be the new owner of the shop.

But PC Paul Whitcomb, Brent Police’s licensing constable, has opposed the application claiming he suspects the shop is still being run by the previous management.

A decision will be made by Brent Council’s licensing committee on January 30.
