A temple in Neasden has launched its forthcoming 20th birthday by donating £20,000 to a health charity.
BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Brentfield Road, presented a cheque to Diabetes UK during a special event held to officially start its year-long celebration on Saturday.
The temple raised the five-figure sum by hosting an annual 10K challenge involving 4,000 participants from around the country earlier this year.
The evening included an assembly attended by Sadguru Pujya Tyagvallabh Swami, a senior sadhu (a Hindu holy man) who flew in from India, and Richard Lane, chairman of Diabetes UK.
The temple opened its doors for the first time in August 1995.
