A popular Irish Bar in Neasden could have its opening hours slashed following claims it allowed early morning ‘lock ins’ for drinkers.

Greenes Irish Bar in Neasden Lane North, was allegedly caught red-handed ushering revellers in “before you are seen” during an early hours inspection by police officers.

On one occasion officers arrived at the bar at 1.20am and before they could identify themselves they were told by a man “if you want a drink, you had better hurry and come in before you are seen” despite a ban on drinks being served after 11pm.

The officers claim the pub also ignored requests to control drunk and disorderly revellers who were often found drinking until after 4am.

In one incident a drinker claimed his “nose exploded” after he was hit in the face with pool cue and in another a witness saw a drunken customer in a high visibility jacket urinating on a lamp post “in full view of the public”.

Documents submitted to Brent Council’s Alcohol and Licensing Committee highlight police being called to a string of drunken brawls and disturbances in the early hours of the morning and entering the bar only to find revellers being served alcohol and smoking on the premises.

Brent Police have asked the council to cut the pub’s opening hours by 30 minutes so it closes at 11.30pm Monday to Saturday and 11pm on a Sunday.

It will also be forced to install CCTV and allow no more than 60 customers on its premises.

A decision will be made in July 27.
