Sarah Teather, Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East, visited Gaza in Palestine again after her first trip to the Middle East in April 2008.
This week she recounts in the Times her experiences and observations from the trip.
"If there is an image that is seared into my memory from my visit to Gaza, it is that of Abdul Kareem and his two sons.
We found them sitting on a blanket outside the ruins of their family home. The area was derelict and deserted.
All the neighbouring houses in his village in Beit Hanun had been shelled.
Most locals were farmers, but the orange groves had been bulldozed and cleared during the military operation. It was eerily quiet."
