It might have midnight but the streets were a shade of pink while walkers raised more than £170,000 for a charity in Kenton.

Around 1,500 people, all wearing pink t-shirts, participated in the annual Midnight Walk in aid of St Luke’s Hospice in Kenton Road.

Fundraisers included worshippers from the Shree Swaminaryan Mandir Kingsbury, who marshalled the event on Friday, and Erin Clancy, a 28-year-old geography teacher from Preston Manor School in Wembley.

She said: “‘I took part at the event after a friend from work told me about the walk. I loved it! It was the first time I had taken part and I will definitely be encouraging all my friends to take part next year, the atmosphere is great!”

Pam Russell, St Luke’s director of fundraising, said: “The walk wouldn’t be possible without the hundreds of volunteers who helped with all aspects of the event, planning, marketing, organising the breakfast, sponsorship and helping out on the night.

“It’s fantastic to see so many individuals and groups from all sections of the community coming together to raise funds for our patients and their families.”
