A prize-winning songwriting graduate from Kensal Rise is releasing his latest music video with all proceeds going to a cancer charity.
Michael Amadi, who lives in Station Terrace, gathered gospel singers from his former Kilburn college for his pop ballad Rise Again.
The video features a full gospel choir from the Institute of Contemporary of Music, in Dyne Road, as well as members of the BIG Gospel Choir.
The track was made in partnership with the Canada-based non-profit organisation ‘Healing Using Music’ (HUM) who Michael toured with in January this year.
There the singer-songwriter met 17-year-old cancer survivor Ruby Davidson, who features in the video.
She said: “I almost cried because of how much the music was hitting me. It’s like he reached into my soul and picked out the song.”
The pianist, singer and songwriter, was a finalist in the 2015 Paris ATLA University Songwriting Competition.
He has also performed for the French charity Les Cammioneurs de Coeur.
He wrote his dissertation on music therapy with the desire to eventually like to write songs for children with traumatic brain injuries.
Michael said: “I think my video can inspire people.
“It’s important because it shares the strength of a 17- year-old in a difficult world.
“Ruby is an example of not losing hope.”
