TWO-GOAL Carl McClusky missed his chance of a hat-trick as Saints opened the new Hendon & District League season by lifting the Stone Memorial Cup with a 4-0 win over Broadway Celtic.

McClusky had already helped his side into a 3-0 lead at Townsend Lane when a foul on Paul Killick in the Celtic penalty area gave him the chance of a treble.

But Broadway goalkeeper Peter Keegan denied McClusky from the spot and it was left to Howard Hall to sidefoot the fourth goal for the league champions.

It was Hall whose corner opened the scoring in the 20th minute, McClusky meeting the ball on the run to fire home.

Celtic enjoyed their fair share of possession in midfield, but were unable to find an equaliser and Craig Tomkins doubled the lead just before half-time.

Saints upped the tempo after the break and McClusky slotted in his second as last year's runners-up began to tire before Hall made it 4-0 late on.
