Police tasered a man after a near six-hour stand-off at Willesden Sports Centre this morning.

The man threatened to hurt officers and members of the public in the pool at the sports centre on Donnington Road. He also threw items and spat at police officers.

The incident also caused Brent Strictly Come Dancing star Danny John-Jules to interrupt his training for the BBC show when he was evacuated from the centre.

Police were called to the sports centre at 7.53am to reports of a man exposing himself.

The 34-year-old then jumped into the pool and threatened to hurt officers, and swimmers in the pool.

Members of the public were evacuated from the pool.

According to users of the centre, around 10 police cars and vans were at the scene.

At 1.45pm, after attempts to negotiate with the man, police tasered him. He has been detained under the Mental Health Act.

The man has not been injured, but has been taken to hospital as a precaution. No officers or members of the public were hurt.

The gym at the sports centre has now re-opened. The swimming pool will re-open tomorrow morning. Both were closed during the incident.
