A man was rushed to hospital after becoming impaled on a fence near Wembley Stadium.
The man, reported to be in his 20s, was attempting to hop over an iron-spiked fence into a car park just outside the stadium when the incident occurred on Sunday evening.
The injuries to his arm were reported to be serious but not life threatening.
Paramedics were called to the scene at around 6.41pm to assist Wembley Stadium’s in-house medical staff as they treated the man’s injuries.
The incident occurred as crowds filtered out of the stadium following the NFL international series game between the Miami Dolphins and the New York Jets.
Two passer-by were reported to have fainted at the sight of the spike, which had lodged itself in the man’s forearm.
Dave Garlant who witnessed the incident said: “It was horrific. We could see this guy straddled on top of the fence with his legs kicking while presumably his mates were trying to push him over the other side.
“Next thing he’s stood upright on the other side of the fence with his arm in the air and the pole and the spike sticking about two thirds of the way up his forearm.
“The worst of it was the number of people taking pictures on their phones while the poor guy was impaled on the fence. Luckily the ambulance turned up pretty quickly.”
A gate leading to the car park is kept locked when there are events on at the stadium.
Members of the hazardous area response team rushed the man to the A&E department of St Mary’s hospital in Paddington.
The man’s condition is unknown at this stage.
