The body of a man who drowned in the Welsh Harp Reservoir at the weekend has been found.

Police officers have been searching for the body since Saturday at 5.30pm when they were called to Cool Oak Lane by the London Ambulance Service.

The London Fire Brigade were also called.

A spokesman for the police said the man, who has not yet been identified, got into difficulties while swimming in the reservoir and then disappeared. Members of the public went to help but could not find him.

When the police arrived there was no sign of the missing man.

Police divers from the Marine Support Unit were called and their search ended this morning.

Although formal identification has not taken place, police believe they know the identity of the man and the next of kin has been informed.

The police spokesman added: “A post-mortem take place in due course. A report will be compiled for the coroner.”
