A library in Wembley will be expanded and transformed into a state-of-the-art facility featuring a café and community space.

The makeover plans for Ealing Road Library in Ealing Road, also includes an enterprise hub offering lower rent to local small businesses and start-ups.

Councillor Tom Miller, Brent Council’s cabinet member for stronger communities, said: “Libraries are a vital part of our communities and are about much more than just borrowing books.

“These improvements to Ealing Road library will mean that more people from the community will benefit from the activities and services.

We will be able to give additional support to small businesses and community groups and I am looking forward to the work being completed.”

Brent Council’s planning committee gave the scheme the green light last week.

In 2011, the council closed six of its 12 libraries to save £1million a year.
