Plans to merge the police borough commanders in Brent, Harrow and Barnet into a single role will be discussed at a public Q&A session tomorrow.

Under the proposals by the former Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, two police chief posts would be axed and overall control of policing in the boroughs brought under the control of a single commander.

This could see either Chief Superintendent Michael Gallagher from Brent, Chief Supt Adrian Usher from Barnet or Chief Supt Simon Ovens from Harrow, taking overall control of the three boroughs.

The plans, which will affect all boroughs in London, aim to save the Met a proposed £60million a year.

The Met Commissioner is currently speaking to local councils and a final decision will be made later this year.

The Q&A allows the public to address their concerns and Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, Sophie Linden and Deputy Commissioner Craig Mackey QPM will answer questions on the proposed merger and the following topics:

• Operation Viper – led by the Met’s Trident and Gang Command to tackle gun crime.

• Westminster’s decision to switch off its CCTV.

• Mayor’s manifesto commitment for a review of London’s preparedness to a major terrorist incident.

• Moped and motorbike enabled crime.

The meeting will take place at City Hall in The Queen’s Walk, London SE1 (nearest station is London Bridge) from 2.00pm in the Chamber Media.
