A noisy bar owner from Harlesden who repeatedly played loud dance music that prevented exasperated neighbours from getting a good night’s sleep has been fined more than £1,200.

Businessman Mohammed Abdi, who runs the Bladi club from a basement on Harlesden High Street, was slapped with a total fine for £1,210 after neighbours repeatedly called council officers to complain the music was so loud it was impossible for them sleep.

A Willesden Magistrates’ court heard how neighbours, many of whom lived in flats above the underground club, had called council officers to investigate anti-social music keeping them up past 1am on November 19.

The late night call-out came just weeks after council officials had issued Mr Abdi with an official noise abatement notice on September 22.

The court fined the bar owner after finding he had ignored the terms of the noise abatement notice, which banned him from playing music that posed a noise nuisance to neighbours.

Cllr James Denselow, Brent Council’s cabinet member for stronger communities, said: “People in residential blocks have a right to a good night’s sleep, so when a businessman is such a nuisance to his neighbours, he’d better expect us to come down on him hard.

“The courts gave a clear sign that they are going to make such noisy businesses pay for their anti-social behaviour.”
