Brent Central’s MP has been appointed shadow minister for diverse communities, by Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.
Dawn Butler, who swept to victory with 73 per cent of the vote in June 8’s general election, will be responsible for representing people of diverse backgrounds and will scrutinise government policy for its impact on these communities.
She said she was delighted to return to the Shadow Cabinet adding: “Under this Conservative government our diverse communities have suffered. Whether it is the introduction of the unfair employment tribunal fees, its refusal to grant British sign language full legal status as is afforded to other languages, or its damaging economic policies which have disproportionately impacted on those from diverse backgrounds, this government continues to punish the most vulnerable in society.
“I am therefore looking forward to taking on this role and standing up for all our diverse communities in the House of Commons, campaigning for fair and equal treatment for all.”
