Jasmine Rana, who is eight and goes to Uxendon Manor Primary School, donated 12 inches of her hair to the Princess Trust. It will be used to make a wig for a child suffering with hair loss as a result of cancer.

Jasmine raised a total of £1,361, smashing her original target of £1,000.

“I’m so shocked,” she told the Brent & Kilburn Times.

“I thought I wasn’t going to get to my target, but I got that within at least three weeks.”

Jasmine sent her hair away to the Trust a week ago (Thu).

“I felt happy but I also felt sad,” she said, “because my hair was growing.

“But I felt happy because my hair is going to go to a good cause.”

Jasmine was first inspired to donate her hair two years ago when she saw an advert on the television.

“When I saw the advert, it inspired me to grow and donate my hair – I told my mum she contacted them and then I got this pack.

“I watched the DVD in the pack and it made me feel really sad for the kids that had cancer.”

Jasmine’s proud mum Bhavini Rana said: “Originally I thought she wouldn’t do it because she loves long hair.

“But when she watched the girl on the DVD who lost her hair through cancer she was really touched by that.

“After that she really wanted to do it, but her hair just wasn’t long enough – so she had to wait for it to grow so she could get a good 12 inches.”

Another girl in Jasmine’s Kenton cub scout group has also cut her hair to raise money for the charity.

Jasmine’s dad Harry Rana said: “It does increase awareness and that’s essentially what Jasmine did it for – to raise awareness and raise money.”
