Former Liberal Democrat MP Lembit Öpik has confirmed he hopes to make a political comeback by being picked to run for the Brent Central seat.
The 48-year-old, who is a company associate director, has put his name forward following Sarah Teather’s decision to step down in 2015.
Mr Öpik lost his Montgomeryshire seat in Wales in the 2010 General Election.
He told the Times: “I feel the current Lib Dem leadership has lost touch with people in Brent Central – Sarah Teather MP has said as much herself.
“I want to put that right.
“The challenge now is to earn the trust of Brent citizens by showing them a Lib Dem vote is NOT a Tory vote.
“If this is not achieved, the seat is in jeopardy.”
