Rs lost 3-2 at home to Hull City last weekend

Queens Park Rangers will get a close look at FA Cup third round opponents Leeds United on Saturday when the teams meet in the Sky Bet Championship.

Monday’s draw for the FA Cup saw the Rs handed a home tie against the Whites, with the match set to take place at Loftus Road over the weekend of January 5.

By quirk of fate, the teams are due to meet in the league at Elland Road this weekend, with QPR looking to return to winning ways after a defeat at home to Hull City last Saturday.

Though Pawel Wszolek and Luke Freeman were on target for the Rs, a brace from Jarrod Bowen and a Markus Henriksen goal was enough for the Tigers to triumph.

QPR boss Steve McClaren will be hoping his side avoid a repeat of their sluggish start against Hull when they conceded twice in opening 22 minutes.

McClaren is keen for his side to start better at Leeds and acknowledges the way they began was simply not good enough.

Speaking after the defeat to Hull, McClaren told journalists: “We were too deep as a team, we weren’t winning enough second balls, and they flew into a 2-0 lead.

“Games are won and lost in the first 20 minutes and they can arguably say they won it in the first 20 and we lost it, but we recovered and we could have got something from it.”

Bright Osayi-Samuel could feature from the off for QPR at Leeds on Saturday after coming on as a late substitute against Hull.

The winger’s pace and trickery caused a tiring Tigers defence problems, with the former Blackpool man having a hand in Freeman’s late goal.

The 20-year-old took the game to Hull when coming on in the 86th minute and his brief cameo led to questions why he did not come on sooner.

But McClaren revealed the reasons why he left it late to introduce Osayi-Samuel, explaining: “We were tempted to bring Bright on sooner, but we were creating.

“Matt Smith had a chance on 75 minutes and we just felt we needed to stay in the game, which we did.”

History appears to be against QPR returning to winning ways on Saturday with the Loftus Road club without a win on each of their last three visits to Leeds.

That includes a 2-0 defeat on the final day of last season in Ian Holloway’s last game as Rs manager.

*Angel Rangel has signed a contract extension with QPR that will see him stay at Loftus Road until the summer.

The former Swansea City full-back arrived at Loftus Road in August on a short-term deal until January, but will now stay with Steve McClaren’s men until the end of the season.
