Police have temporarily installed a safety arch at a secondary school in Harlesden today as part of a London-wide crackdown on knife and violent crime.

Students at Newman Catholic College in Harlesden Road, are being searched for weapons by officers carrying out phase five of the Met’s Operation Sceptre.

The week-long operation also includes weapon sweeps, intelligence-led stop and search and proactive operations across Brent and the 32 other London boroughs.

Officers uploaded an image of the safety arch today on social media website Twitter.

The Times has asked Brent Police if the arch will be installed at other schools in the borough.
