More than 300 people attended a special remembrance service at a hospice in Kenton which raised £14,000 for the charity.

St Luke’s Hospice held its Light up a Life event on December 3 at their grounds in Kenton Grove to remember and celebrate those the community has lost.

The evening, which included speeches and musical performances, ended with the lighting of candles, one minute’s silence and the lighting of the hospice tree.

Zaynab Chatoo, 23, took to the stage to thank hospice staff for all the care they gave her mother, who died eight years ago.

She said: “It’s almost 10 years since my mother was a patient here at St Luke’s. I don’t think that I will ever be able to repay St Luke’s kindness, no matter how many Midnight Walks I walk. St Luke’s is a truly special place.

“I know it certainly holds a special place in many of our hearts and it certainly lit up my mother’s life.”
