Kensal Rise residents were baffled this week by the appearance of a three-metre cycle lane in Chamberlayne Road.
The cycle lane appeared after contractors who have been working to restore and update the gas mains along the road repainted the site incorrectly.
Rik Smith of the Kensal Rise Residents’ Association told the Kilburn Times: “It’s clearly regrettable that the contractor has made this mistake. It’s amusing and it’s laughable. The council have told the contractor to fix this and they’ll be doing that.”
Meanwhile, Damiano di Cere tweeted of the new piece of road furniture: “It’s well connected (to the pavement) & wide (enough for a fat cat to waddle down it & get tired before reaching the end.)”
A Brent spokesperson said: “The utility contractor has incorrectly marked and curtailed the cycle lane. We have asked them to rectify this as soon as possible.” The average adult bicycle is about 175cm long – more than half the length of the “cycle lane”.
