The nine-week-old Chihuahua cross was found sitting alone on the Bakerloo line wearing no lead or collar in 25 degree heat on June 28.

He was brought to the Mayhew, where staff named him after the late pop star who was a strong supporter of the charity in Trenmar Gardens, Kensal Green.

Mayhew’s animal welfare officer, Paul Grimes, said: “We don’t know how long poor George Michael had been left on the tube for in this hot weather. We can’t imagine how confusing it must have been for him.”

No-one came forward to claim the pup and after a thorough check-up he was adopted on July 25.

Mr Grimes added: “We strongly advise all pet owners to have their animal microchipped to significantly increase your chances of being reunited should the unthinkable happen and your pet becomes lost or is stolen.”

He added: “It is also important to keep details up to date on the microchipping database, and to notify the chip company if you change phone numbers, address or if your pet does go missing.”
