The Mayhew animal home needs runners to take part in sponsored 5k race

A Kensal Green charity is looking for kind-hearted runners to put their best foot forward for their cause next month.

The Mayhew Animal Home in Trenmar Avenue, needs volunteers who will raise funds for them by taking part in a sponsored Santa run.

The annual event, which takes place in Greenwich Park on December 9, gives participants the option of doing a 5km walk, jog or run.

Those who fancy a greater challenge can take part in a 10k run.

Jolly Santa outfits, complete with beards, are provided on the day to help get the hundreds of charity runners into the festive spirit.

Runners are welcome to bring their dogs with them and as they won’t be provided with a Santas outfit the Mayhew will dress them in a charity coats on the day.

Lisa Houlihan, the Mayhew’s events co-ordinator, said: “This is such a great festive event and a favourite here at The Mayhew. You can walk, jog or run, and dogs can join in too!

“Our current canine residents are already looking forward to it!”

All sponsorship money raised will go to the cats, dogs and rabbits at the Mayhew.

The Santa 5k run starts at 10.30am and anyone wishing to take part please contact Lisa on 020 8968 2445 or email events@mayhewanimalhome.org
