A holocaust survivor visited a Queen’s Park school to share her experiences in one of the worst concentration camps today.
Lady Zahava Kohn held a special assembly with teachers and sixth form students of Queen’s Park Community School to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day.
Commenting on the event, Mike Hulme, headmaster of the school in Aylestone Avenue, said: “It has been the school’s absolute pleasure to be involved in Holocaust Memorial week once more.
“It is vital that the young people fully understand and learn the facts surrounding this terrible period in history and how countless victims were persecuted.
“To have Lady Zahava Kohn and her daughter Ms Hephzibah Rudofsky relay her story enabled us to fully grasp how real individuals lived through the unimaginable horrors of that time.”
The 78-year-old is a survivor of the notorious Bergen Belsen concentration camp Lower Saxony, Germany, where she and her parents were imprisoned from 1944 until they were liberated in 1945.
It was her daughter, Hephzibah Rudofsky, who convinced her to break her silence on her traumatic experience and speak in schools nationwide.
Holocaust Memorial Day is held on January 27.
