QPR manager Ian Holloway was unhappy with referee Darren England’s decision to award Aston Villa’s all-important penalty after Jack Robinson used his hand to block Robert Snodgrass’ shot.

Albert Adomah, a boyhood QPR fan, equalised from the spot in the final seconds of the first half after Jamie Mackie’s 18th-minute goal had put the home side ahead at Loftus Road.

And the Villa winger took his goal tally for the season to eight with a cool finish 13 minutes into the second half to seal a 2-1 win for Steve Bruce’s side.

Holloway said: “I’ve looked at the handball. It does get to you.

“Is that deliberate? Did he have time for it to be deliberate? The referee’s given it, I think he’s wrong and so do my lads.

“Villa started the second half brighter because they’d got that little tonic. Once we went one behind it was then very tough for us.

“We’ve got to keep believing, because some of that stuff was excellent – the way we got it to our wing-backs and played down the side.

“I feel we played well and I’ll take that performance. We just need to capitalise on the chances we created. I’m sure we had at least as many as them, if not more.

“Villa were a threat on the counter-attack. When Steve’s teams get in front they are very well organised defensively. But I still felt we deserved something out of that game, but we didn’t get it.”

Bruce hailed Adomah and Keinan Davis for their key roles in his side’s victory.

He added: “Albert has added goals to his game, which is great.

“He’s done very well. At the start of the season he wasn’t in the team and he didn’t moan or groan.

“He got on with it, came into my office and said, ‘I’ll prove you you wrong’. He trained well, worked hard and when he gets his chance he takes it.”

The 19-year-old Davis, who was signed from non-league Biggleswade Town in 2015 and signed a new three-year contract this week, was handed a chance because of Villa’s injury problems.

Bruce said: “If a big name drops out it gives others an opportunity – and proof of that was Keinan.

“He was immense and it just shows you where you can come from in a short space of time. I’m very pleased with him.

“We’re all absolutely delighted – a big well done to whoever found him. I haven’t quite got to the bottom of who did, because they’re all coming out of the woodwork.

“The reaction when QPR scored was great and I thought we looked a very decent team, especially at the top end of the pitch.

“The way we played pleased me. We played it forward, were energetic and looked a threat. We did very well.”
